Description

SETIS (Strategic Energy Technologies Information System) is the European Commission’s information system for the SET-Plan. It makes the case for technology options and priorities, monitors and reviews progress regarding implementation, assesses the impact on policy and identifies corrective measures if needed. Therefore, part of the broad scope of the SET-Plan focuses on capacities mapping, which aims to provide an assessment of public and corporate R&D investment in low-carbon energy technologies in the EU.

The ultimate objective is to offer a benchmark, based on the observed R&D investments, that will serve as the basis for planning the future investments needed to address the key R&D technology challenges identified by the SET-Plan.The The primary focus of the Capacities Map is on technologies addressed by the SET-Plan (bioenergy, CCS, electricity grids, nuclear fission, solar, wind, fuel cells and hydrogen technologies).

In addition, the current edition contains assessments on energy storage and ocean energy technologies, priorities identified in the 2013 communication on Energy Technologies and Innovation, which brings the total number of technologies addressed to nine. The reference year for the R&D investment is 2011.
