Hydropower and Pumped Hydropower Storage in the European Union

The report confirms that the EU is a leader in hydropower development, exports, technological innovation and sustainable solutions, as well as hosting more than a quarter of the global pumped hydropower storage capacity. R&D should aim at tapping hidden opportunities in existing facilities, at increasing flexibility to better support integration of variable renewables and resilience to climate changes, at digitalization and mitigation of environmental impacts.
