Description
Technologies for advanced (second generation) biofuels from feedstock with no direct or indirect land use change are progressing fast. The EU is world leader in commercial plants, even if overall production capacity is still marginal. New technologies are ready to exploit the potential of waste and residues feedstocks, also contributing to GHG emission reduction. EC set more ambitious targets for promoting the use of advanced biofuels, with an increased scope in aviation and maritime sectors, and reinforced the sustainability requirements. Today drop-in advanced biofuels are still the most promising alternative to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors as aviation and maritime.
