Cogeneration of heat and power: Technology Information Sheet

16/02/2011

Cogeneration or Combined Heat and Power (CHP), uses a part of thatheat to satisfy a heat demand which would otherwise require energy fromanother source, usually a fuel. The heat is often in the form of hotexhaust gases, steam or hot water. CHP thus improves the overallefficiency of fuel utilisation and saves on primary energy incomparison to the conventional separate production of power andheat.
