EESC Conference on Energy Security

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is holding a conference in Pécs (Hungary) on 29th April 2011 on how EU energy policy can ensure security of supply and how we can strengthen the external dimension of EU energy policy.

The conference will also examine the recent EESC Opinion on “Energy supply: what kind of neighbourhood policy do we need to ensure security of supply for the EU?”

For the EESC, the timing of the event coincides well with the European Commission’s public consultation on the external dimension of EU energy policy and the Communication on this subject expected later this year. Meanwhile, creating a single European energy market and eliminating external energy dependency are priorities for the Hungarian EU Presidency.
