In support of the 2nd Strategic European Energy review (2008), SETIS calculated the production cost of electricity from a wide range of power generation technologies in 2020, based on a thorough assessment of their techno-economic characteristics and available forecasts for the price of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide.

In support of the 2nd Strategic European Energy review (2008), SETIS calculated the production cost of electricity from a wide range of power generation technologies in 2020, based on a thorough assessment of their techno-economic characteristics and available forecasts for the price of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide (see figure). More information on the assessment methodology and the underlying techno-economic data can be found in the Commission Staff Working Document that was annexed to the Strategic Energy Review. This document also assesses heat production and transport fuel technologies, and also includes a thorough list of literature sources that have provided the reference information used in this analysis. The energy production costs can be calculated using the Energy Cost Calculator.
